My name is James Blackwell. I own a successful self managing 7-figure Recruitment Agency in Newcastle upon Tyne, serving the UK and US markets. How did I get here?
I started my first business from a coffee shop at 21-years-old – with nothing but a laptop and a £10,000 credit card loan. Before that, I was selling cars at BMW. I learned the trade and matured, learning high-level sales…
And then I moved on to recruitment. This was the game changer.
As a Recruitment Consultant for a leading, international recruitment company, I climbed the ladder to become Manager… But there was still the drive to make something of my OWN.
In 2015, I decided to make the leap and start my own recruitment agency. After we made our first deal, we were able to build momentum and close clients consistently. Over the past 5 years, it has grown from a one-man operation to a $2 million market-leading agency with over 120 clients (mainly retained and exclusive), 13 employees and a highly profitable, self-managing system.
The growth of my kitchen startup has taught me many things. I don’t believe that my success was due to ‘good luck’. Success came from an understanding of the key fundamentals.
The process over the past 4-5 years has been painful. There was a lot of waste, as well as trial and error. I had to put thousands and thousands of hours into mastering perfecting a system that works for my agency and that can replicate in yours too.
